Equipment

  • Large Wine Glass or Balloon Glass

Ingredients

  • 3 oz Prosecco chilled, dry variety
  • 2 oz Aperol
  • 1 oz Soda water or sparkling water
  • Ice cubes large ones preferred
  • 1 slice Orange preferably blood orange for garnish
  • 1 Green olive optional, for traditional Venetian service

Instructions

  • Fill a large wine glass or balloon glass with ice cubes. For best presentation, use high-quality, clear ice. Pro tip: Chill your glasses in the freezer for 10 minutes before serving for an extra-refreshing experience.
  • Pour 3 oz of chilled Prosecco over the ice. Adding Prosecco first prevents the Aperol from settling at the bottom, creating a more balanced flavor from the first sip.
  • Gently pour 2 oz of Aperol over the Prosecco. Watch as the vibrant orange liqueur creates beautiful color gradients throughout the glass.
  • Add 1 oz of soda water to give your spritz its characteristic effervescence. Pour slowly to preserve the bubbles.
  • Garnish with an orange slice, placing it directly in the drink or on the rim of the glass. For an authentic Venetian experience, add a green olive on a cocktail pick.
  • Give the cocktail a gentle stir before serving to integrate all flavors. Enjoy immediately while cold and bubbly.

Notes

For a lower-alcohol version, use a 1:1 ratio of Aperol to Prosecco and increase soda water to 2 oz.
For a lower-sugar option, substitute half the Aperol with sugar-free orange bitters and a splash of fresh orange juice.
Always chill your ingredients beforehand for optimal flavor.
Traditionally enjoyed during 'aperitivo hour' (between 5-7 pm) to stimulate the appetite.
