Equipment

  • 9x13-inch Baking Dish

Ingredients

Apple Dump Cake Ingredients

  • 2 cans apple pie filling 21 oz each
  • 1 box yellow cake mix 15.25 oz
  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter melted (1.5 sticks)
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon optional
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg optional
  • 1/4 cup chopped nuts walnuts or pecans, optional

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9x13 inch baking dish with cooking spray or butter.
  • Open the cans of apple pie filling and spread them evenly across the bottom of your prepared baking dish. If using cinnamon and nutmeg, sprinkle them over the apple layer.
  • Evenly distribute the dry cake mix powder over the apple pie filling. Don't mix it in – just create an even layer covering all of the apples.
  • Pour the melted butter evenly over the cake mix layer, trying to cover as much of the dry cake mix as possible.
  • If using nuts, sprinkle them evenly over the top.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the edges are bubbling.
  • Allow the Apple Dump Cake to cool for 15-20 minutes before serving.

Notes

For a homemade version, use about 4 cups of homemade apple pie filling instead of canned.
White, spice, or butter cake mix all work well as substitutes for yellow cake mix.
For a dairy-free option, substitute the butter with coconut oil.
Add 1/2 cup of dried cranberries or raisins for extra texture and flavor.
Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or a drizzle of caramel sauce for an extra special treat.
Store covered at room temperature for up to 2 days, refrigerated for 4-5 days, or frozen for up to 3 months.
