Equipment

  • Medium Saucepan
  • Fine-mesh Sieve
  • Wooden Spoon
  • Pitcher

Ingredients

  • 2 green tea bags preferably organic
  • 1 cup fresh blueberries frozen will work too
  • 4 cups filtered water
  • 1-2 tablespoons honey or maple syrup optional, adjust to taste
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • ice cubes for serving iced
  • fresh mint leaves optional, for garnish

Instructions

  • Rinse the blueberries thoroughly under cold water. In a medium saucepan, add the blueberries with 1 cup of water. Using the back of a wooden spoon, gently crush about half of the berries to release their juices while leaving some whole for texture and visual appeal.
  • Bring the blueberry mixture to a gentle simmer over medium heat. Once simmering, reduce the heat to low and let it cook for about 5 minutes until the berries have softened and released their color.
  • While the blueberry mixture is simmering, bring the remaining 3 cups of water to just below boiling (about 175°F/80°C). Remove from heat and add the green tea bags. Allow to steep for 3-4 minutes, then remove the tea bags.
  • Pour the brewed green tea into the blueberry mixture and stir gently. Add honey or maple syrup if desired, along with the fresh lemon juice.
  • Allow the mixture to cool to room temperature, then strain through a fine-mesh sieve into a pitcher, pressing gently on the blueberries to extract maximum flavor. For hot tea, serve immediately. For iced tea, refrigerate until thoroughly chilled (about 30 minutes).
  • Pour into glasses filled with ice and garnish with fresh mint leaves and a few whole blueberries.

Notes

For a caffeine-free version, use decaffeinated green tea.
Replace honey with agave nectar for a vegan option.
Try blackberries or mixed berries for a different flavor profile.
Store in a glass container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
The lemon juice not only brightens the flavor but also helps preserve the vibrant color.
