Equipment

  • Large Pitcher
  • Citrus Juicer

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 bottle crisp white wine Pinot Grigio or Sauvignon Blanc recommended (750ml)
  • 2 cups fresh blueberries organic preferred
  • 2 lemons thinly sliced (Meyer lemons if available)
  • 1/4 cup honey or agave syrup adjust to taste
  • 1/2 cup blueberry liqueur substitute with triple sec or elderflower liqueur if needed
  • 1 cup sparkling water or club soda

Garnish

  • fresh mint leaves for garnish
  • ice cubes
  • 1 tbsp fresh lemon zest optional

Instructions

  • Rinse the blueberries thoroughly and pat them dry. Set aside 1/4 cup for garnish later. Take the remaining blueberries and gently muddle about half of them in the bottom of a large pitcher to release their juices and color.
  • Slice the lemons thinly, removing seeds as you go. Pro tip: Rolling your lemons firmly on the countertop before slicing releases more juice and essential oils.
  • Add the honey or agave to the pitcher and pour in about 1/4 cup of the white wine. Stir until the sweetener dissolves completely.
  • Pour the remaining white wine and blueberry liqueur into the pitcher. Add the lemon slices and unmudlled blueberries. If using, add the lemon zest now. Gently stir to combine all ingredients.
  • Cover the pitcher and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, preferably 4-6 hours. For optimal results, stir gently once or twice during chilling.
  • Just before serving, add the sparkling water or club soda to the sangria and stir gently. Fill glasses with ice, pour the sangria, ensuring each glass gets a good amount of the infused fruit.
  • Garnish with the reserved fresh blueberries and mint leaves. Serve immediately while the carbonation is at its peak.

Notes

The success of this sangria lies in the quality of your blueberries – plump, firm berries release more flavor during infusion.
For a non-alcoholic version, substitute the white wine with white grape juice and skip the liqueur, adding an extra splash of lemon juice to maintain complexity.
This sangria will keep in the refrigerator for up to 48 hours, though the fruit should be consumed within 24 hours for optimal texture.
Add the sparkling water only upon serving to maintain carbonation.
