Serrated knife
- 1 package (12 count) Hawaiian sweet rolls
- 8 oz mozzarella cheese freshly shredded
- 4 oz cream cheese softened to room temperature
- 6 cloves garlic minced (about 2 tablespoons)
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter melted
- 2 tablespoons fresh parsley finely chopped
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes optional for heat lovers
- 1/4 teaspoon sea salt
- 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese for topping
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
In a small bowl, combine melted butter, minced garlic, parsley, Italian seasoning, salt, and red pepper flakes if using. Whisk until well incorporated. Let this mixture sit for 5 minutes.
Mix the shredded mozzarella with softened cream cheese in a medium bowl until well combined.
Using a serrated knife, carefully cut the entire block of rolls horizontally, keeping the top and bottom halves intact. Gently hollow out some of the bread from the bottom half to create space for extra cheese filling.
Brush about 1/3 of the garlic butter mixture onto the bottom half of the rolls. Spread the cheese mixture evenly across the buttered bottom half, pressing lightly to ensure it fills all spaces.
Place the top half back on and brush the remaining garlic butter generously over the top and sides.
Sprinkle Parmesan cheese over the top and bake for 15-20 minutes, until the cheese is fully melted and the tops are golden brown.
Allow to cool for 5 minutes before serving to let the cheese set slightly.
For maximum flavor, use freshly shredded cheese rather than pre-packaged varieties.
Keep the rolls connected as one unit during preparation for best results.
These rolls can be prepared up to 24 hours in advance and refrigerated before baking.
For a healthier version, use whole grain rolls and light cream cheese.
