Slushie Base

  • 4 cups apple cider preferably unfiltered for a richer flavor
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice

  • 1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup optional for added sweetness

Instructions
 

  • Pour the fresh apple cider into a large mixing bowl. Add the fresh lemon juice, which brightens the flavor and helps prevent oxidation.
  • Whisk in the cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice until completely dissolved.
  • Taste your mixture and add maple syrup if desired, depending on the natural sweetness of your cider.
  • Pour the mixture into a shallow freezer-safe container. The larger the surface area, the quicker and more evenly it will freeze.
  • Place in the freezer for 3-4 hours, stirring with a fork every hour to break up ice crystals.
  • Once mostly frozen but still slightly slushy, transfer the mixture to a blender and pulse until you reach your desired consistency.
  • Pour into chilled glasses and garnish with fresh apple slices and cinnamon sticks.

For a smoother slushie, blend continuously for 30 seconds; for a more granular texture, use the pulse function 5-6 times.
