Instructions

  • Select avocados that yield slightly to pressure without feeling mushy. Cut each avocado in half lengthwise, remove the pit, and scoop the flesh into a medium bowl.
  • Add lime juice directly to the avocados and mash to your preferred consistency using the back of a fork. Some prefer a chunky texture, while others enjoy a smoother consistency.
  • Incorporate salt and cumin into your avocado base. This step is crucial as the seasoning needs to distribute evenly before adding other ingredients.
  • Gently fold in your diced onions, tomatoes, cilantro, and jalapeños. Avoid aggressive stirring which can break down the avocados too much, leading to a less appealing texture.
  • Choose 1-3 custom mix-ins based on your occasion and preferences. Gently fold these into your guacamole, being careful not to overmix.
  • Allow your guacamole to rest for 15-30 minutes in the refrigerator. This resting period allows flavors to harmonize. After resting, taste and adjust seasonings as needed.

Notes

For the freshest guacamole, prepare within 4 hours of serving. To store leftover guacamole, press plastic wrap directly onto the surface to minimize air exposure and add an extra squeeze of lime juice to the top layer before refrigerating.
For a lighter version, replace half the avocado with equal parts green peas for 30% fewer calories. You can also add 2 tablespoons of Greek yogurt for extra creaminess while boosting protein content.
