Equipment

  • Baking Sheet
  • Parchment Paper
  • Wooden sticks or popsicle sticks
  • Microwave-safe Bowls
  • Spatula

Ingredients

For the Base

  • 6 Granny Smith apples firm and tart
  • 6 wooden sticks or popsicle sticks sturdy
  • 1 pound soft caramels unwrapped (about 40 pieces)
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream can substitute coconut cream for dairy-free option

For the "Snickers" Layers

  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips use allergy-friendly brand like Enjoy Life for guaranteed nut-free
  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil
  • 1 1/2 cups sunflower seed butter the perfect peanut butter substitute
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar to sweeten the sunflower seed layer
  • 2 cups nut-free "crispy" elements options: crushed Oreo cookies, nut-free granola, toasted sunflower seeds, crispy rice cereal, or crushed pretzels
  • 1/2 cup white chocolate chips optional, for drizzle decoration

Instructions

  • Remove any stems and thoroughly wash apples with warm water to remove the waxy coating. Dry completely with paper towels—any moisture will prevent the caramel from adhering properly.
  • Insert wooden sticks firmly into the apple cores, pushing about halfway through for stability.
  • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and lightly spray with cooking spray.
  • Place unwrapped caramels and heavy cream in a microwave-safe bowl. Heat in 30-second intervals, stirring between each, until completely melted and smooth (approximately 2-3 minutes total).
  • Let cool for 2-3 minutes until slightly thickened but still dippable.
  • Holding the stick, dip each apple into the caramel, rotating to coat evenly. Allow excess to drip off, then use a spatula to scrape the bottom.
  • Place on prepared baking sheet and refrigerate for 20 minutes until set.
  • While the caramel sets, mix sunflower seed butter with powdered sugar in a bowl until well combined. Warm slightly in microwave (10-15 seconds) if too thick to work with.
  • Remove apples from refrigerator. Using a small spatula or the back of a spoon, spread a generous layer of the sunflower seed mixture over the caramel.
  • Return to refrigerator for another 15 minutes to set.
  • Combine chocolate chips and coconut oil in a microwave-safe bowl. Heat in 30-second intervals, stirring between each, until smooth. Let cool slightly but remain fluid.
  • Remove apples from refrigerator. Dip or spoon chocolate over each apple, covering the sunflower butter layer.
  • Working quickly before the chocolate sets, roll or sprinkle with your chosen nut-free crunchy topping.
  • If desired, melt white chocolate chips and drizzle over the completed apples for an elegant finishing touch.
  • Refrigerate until fully set, at least 25 minutes before serving.

Notes

- For best results, select firm apples that aren't too ripe.
- Store in the refrigerator on a parchment-lined tray for up to 3 days.
- Allow refrigerated apples to sit at room temperature for 10-15 minutes before serving for the best texture and flavor.
- For easier eating, slice apples into wedges just before serving.
