Equipment

  • Blender

Ingredients

  • 1 cup fresh strawberries hulled (or frozen for a thicker texture)
  • 1/2 cup blackberries fresh or frozen
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice approximately 1 medium lemon
  • 1/2 teaspoon lemon zest
  • 1 cup Greek yogurt plain or vanilla
  • 1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup adjust to taste
  • 1/2 cup almond milk or any preferred milk
  • 1/2 cup ice cubes
  • 1 tablespoon chia seeds optional, for added nutrition
  • lemon slice, fresh berries, or mint leaves optional garnish

Instructions

  • Wash your strawberries and blackberries thoroughly. Hull the strawberries by removing the green leafy tops. If using fresh lemon, roll it firmly against your countertop before cutting to increase juice yield.
  • Zest your lemon first, being careful to only get the yellow part (the white pith is bitter). Then cut and squeeze to extract the juice. Use a small mesh strainer to catch any seeds.
  • Add ingredients to your blender in this order: liquids first (milk and lemon juice), then soft ingredients (yogurt, honey), followed by berries, and finally ice on top.
  • Start blending on low speed for 15 seconds, then gradually increase to high for about 1-2 minutes until smooth. If your smoothie is too thick, add a splash more milk; if too thin, add a few more ice cubes or frozen berries.
  • Taste and adjust with additional honey for sweetness or lemon juice for tartness based on your personal preference and the natural sweetness of your fruit.
  • Pour into a chilled glass, garnish if desired, and enjoy immediately for best flavor and nutrient content.

Notes

For a dairy-free version, replace Greek yogurt with coconut yogurt or silken tofu. Vegans can use maple syrup or agave instead of honey. The smoothie can be refrigerated for up to 12 hours in an airtight container, though it's best enjoyed fresh.
For added protein, include 1 scoop of unflavored or vanilla protein powder. For a greener version, add a handful of spinach—the berry flavors will completely mask it.
