Equipment

  • Large Glass Pitcher
  • Blender
  • Wine Glasses

Ingredients

Wine and Liquor

  • 1 bottle crisp white wine 750ml, Pinot Grigio or Sauvignon Blanc recommended
  • 1/4 cup triple sec or orange liqueur

Fresh Fruits and Juices

  • 4 cups watermelon cubed, approximately ¼ of a medium watermelon
  • 2 cups fresh strawberries hulled and sliced
  • 1/4 cup fresh lime juice about 2 medium limes

Additional Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup honey or agave nectar adjust to taste
  • 1 cup sparkling water or club soda
  • fresh mint leaves for garnish
  • ice cubes for serving

Instructions

  • Hull and slice the strawberries into thin pieces. Cut the watermelon into 1-inch cubes, removing any seeds.
  • Blend 1 cup of the watermelon cubes into a smooth purée.
  • In a large glass pitcher, combine the wine, triple sec, lime juice, and honey or agave. Stir until the sweetener is completely dissolved.
  • Add the watermelon purée and stir to incorporate. Then add the remaining watermelon cubes and sliced strawberries.
  • Cover the pitcher and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, preferably overnight for optimal flavor infusion.
  • Just before serving, add the sparkling water or club soda and gently stir to maintain carbonation.
  • Serve in wine glasses filled with ice, ensuring each glass gets plenty of the macerated fruit. Garnish with fresh mint leaves.

Notes

For best results, use a watermelon that sounds hollow when tapped and has a yellow spot where it rested on the ground – these indicators suggest optimal ripeness.
The flavor peaks between 12-24 hours after preparation, making this an ideal make-ahead cocktail.
Add the sparkling water only when ready to serve, as carbonation diminishes after the first hour.
