Base Ingredients
- 1 bottle white wine Pinot Grigio or Sauvignon Blanc recommended (750ml)
- 1 cup fresh orange juice
- 1/4 cup simple syrup or honey for a natural alternative
- 2 cups sparkling water chilled
Colorful Layers
- 1/4 cup grenadine syrup
- 2 tablespoons blue curaçao liqueur
Fresh Fruits
- 1 orange thinly sliced
- 1 lemon thinly sliced
- 1 lime thinly sliced
- 1 cup strawberries quartered
- 1 cup frozen blueberries
- ice cubes for serving
Wash all fruits thoroughly. Slice the orange, lemon, and lime into thin rounds, then quarter the slices. Hull and quarter the strawberries. Place all prepared fruit in a large glass pitcher.
Pour the white wine into the pitcher with the prepared fruit. Add the orange juice and simple syrup, then stir gently to combine.
Place the pitcher in the refrigerator and let it chill for at least 2 hours (preferably 4 hours for optimal flavor infusion).
Just before serving, pour the grenadine slowly down the inside of the pitcher to create the red "sunset" layer at the bottom.
For the final blue "sky" layer, carefully add the blue curaçao by pouring it slowly over the back of a spoon held just above the surface of the sangria.
Add the sparkling water just before serving to maintain the effervescence. Gently stir once or twice – not too much or you'll lose the layered effect.
Serve in clear glasses over ice, making sure each glass gets some of the colorful, wine-soaked fruit.
For a non-alcoholic version, substitute white wine with white grape juice and blue curaçao with blue sports drink or blueberry juice with a drop of blue food coloring.
For a less sweet version, reduce the simple syrup and use liquid stevia or monk fruit sweetener.
The base mixture can be prepared up to 3 days ahead, but add the grenadine, blue curaçao, and sparkling water just before serving.
For best visual effect, use a clear glass pitcher and serving glasses.
