Ingredients
  

  • 4 cups fresh watermelon chunks seeds removed (about ¼ of a medium watermelon)
  • 2 oz silver tequila 100% agave recommended
  • 1 oz triple sec or Cointreau
  • 1 oz fresh lime juice approximately 2 limes
  • 1 tablespoon agave nectar or simple syrup adjust to taste
  • ice cubes
  • salt or tajin seasoning for rimming glasses (optional)
  • watermelon wedges and lime slices for garnish

Instructions
 

  • Cut your watermelon into 1-inch chunks, removing any seeds. For maximum flavor extraction, let the cut watermelon sit at room temperature for about 15 minutes before blending.
  • Place the watermelon chunks in a blender and pulse until smooth. For an extra-smooth margarita, strain the puree through a fine-mesh sieve to remove any pulp.
  • If desired, run a lime wedge around the rim of your margarita glasses, then dip in salt or tajin seasoning. For a sweet-spicy contrast, mix equal parts sugar and tajin.
  • In a cocktail shaker, combine 1/2 cup watermelon juice, tequila, triple sec, lime juice, and agave nectar. Add ice and shake vigorously for 15 seconds until well-chilled.
  • Strain the margarita into prepared glasses filled with fresh ice. Garnish with watermelon wedges and lime slices.

Notes

For a frozen version, freeze the watermelon chunks for at least 4 hours before blending.
Use a ripe watermelon for the best flavor - look for a deep, hollow sound when tapped.
Pre-blend watermelon juice and store in the refrigerator for up to 48 hours for quick assembly.
