Equipment

  • Blender
  • Large Glass Pitcher
  • Fine-mesh Sieve

Ingredients

Sangria Base

  • 6 cups watermelon cubed (about ½ medium watermelon)
  • 1 bottle white wine 750ml (Pinot Grigio or Sauvignon Blanc recommended)
  • 1/4 cup honey or agave nectar
  • 1 lime thinly sliced
  • 1 lemon thinly sliced
  • 1 cup fresh mint leaves lightly bruised
  • 1/4 cup lime juice freshly squeezed
  • 1 cup sparkling water
  • ice cubes for serving

Optional Garnish

  • fresh mint sprigs
  • watermelon wedges

Instructions

  • Cut your watermelon into 1-inch cubes, removing seeds if necessary. Set aside 2 cups for blending and reserve the remaining 4 cups as chunks for the sangria.
  • Add the 2 cups of watermelon cubes to a blender and process until smooth, about 30 seconds. If you prefer a clearer sangria, strain the puree through a fine-mesh sieve to remove pulp.
  • In a large glass pitcher, add the remaining watermelon chunks, mint leaves, lime slices, and lemon slices. Pour in the wine, watermelon puree, honey, and lime juice. Gently stir to combine all ingredients, ensuring the honey is fully incorporated.
  • Cover the pitcher and refrigerate for at least 2-4 hours, though overnight infusion yields the most vibrant flavor profile.
  • Just before serving, add sparkling water and stir gently. Fill glasses with ice and pour the sangria over, ensuring each glass gets a good mixture of fruit pieces and liquid. Garnish with additional fresh mint sprigs and watermelon wedges if desired.

Notes

The sangria base (without sparkling water) can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 48 hours. Remove mint leaves after 12 hours to prevent bitterness.
For a non-alcoholic version, replace wine with white grape juice and additional sparkling water.
Using frozen watermelon chunks can serve as natural ice cubes that won't dilute your sangria.
