- 1 bottle dry white wine 750ml, Pinot Grigio, Sauvignon Blanc, or Albariño work best
- 1/4 cup white rum or brandy optional but recommended for authentic flavor
- 1/4 cup triple sec or orange liqueur
- 3 tbsp honey or agave nectar adjust to taste
- 1 green apple thinly sliced
- 1 peach or nectarine sliced
- 1 cup green grapes halved
- 1 lemon thinly sliced
- 1 lime thinly sliced
- 1-2 cups sparkling water added just before serving
- fresh mint leaves for garnish
- ice cubes
Wash all the fruit thoroughly under cold water. Slice the green apple, peach, lemon, and lime into thin, attractive pieces. Cut grapes in half if they're large. Aim for bite-sized pieces that will infuse quickly but still be easy for guests to eat from their glasses.
In a large pitcher (at least 2-quart capacity), pour the bottle of white wine. Add the white rum or brandy and triple sec if using. Stir gently to combine.
Add honey or agave nectar to the liquid mixture and stir until completely dissolved. Pro tip: Warming the honey slightly before adding makes it easier to incorporate into the cold liquid. Adjust sweetness based on the dryness of your chosen wine.
Gently add all prepared fruit to the pitcher. Push the fruit down slightly with a wooden spoon to ensure it's well-submerged in the liquid. This helps maximize flavor extraction from the fruits into the wine.
Cover the pitcher and refrigerate for at least 2-4 hours, though overnight is ideal. This resting period allows the flavors to meld and develop.
Just before serving, add the sparkling water to the mixture for effervescence. Gently stir once to combine. Serve in wine glasses over ice, ensuring each glass gets a good mix of the infused wine and macerated fruit. Garnish with fresh mint leaves.
For an alcohol-free version, replace wine with white grape juice and omit the spirits.
Sweeten with 2-3 tablespoons simple syrup instead of honey if preferred.
Try pears instead of apples for a different flavor profile.
White peaches can replace yellow ones for a more delicate flavor.
Sparkling lemonade can substitute for sparkling water for added sweetness.
Sangria base (without sparkling water) can be refrigerated for up to 48 hours.
